About

Mori Ōgai (1862 – 1922)

Nearly unknown in Germany, Ōgai’s reputation as Poet laureate, scientist and philosopher is rarely known or taught in schools. However, his Germany Diaries (1884–1888), novels and scientific publications, define the common perception of Germany in Japan. His biography and variety of creative endeavours make him a symbol of Japanese-German cultural exchange.

spectator. (…)
Not being in the spotlight, far away from the big stage
Made me feel like in my element. Like the fish in the water.
Because Spectators like to be among spectators.”
